TUNNEL VISION
In Habakkuk 1:5 (if you can spell that correctly without looking, you get extra points), and it says: “For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”
Even if you were told.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I wish all the time that God would tell me what He is up to in my life.
We’ve got chronic tunnel vision, don’t we? We can’t see anything outside of what’s happening—or supposed to be happening—right in front of us. We think about today, and today we start thinking about tomorrow or next week, but we don’t ever get to see the big picture.
It’d be nice if God could tell us what He’s working together. It might make me breathe a little easier. It would honestly probably make me even more committed to His calling and more zealous of a follower.
But still, even that sort of thinking is through such a lens of tunnel vision. Because right here in this verse it says that I wouldn’t even be able to believe what He is doing right now; I would be so blown away by His plan and overwhelmed by His glory and goodness.
So here’s the challenge and the encouragement: next time you wish He would just let you in behind the curtain of what He is working together for your good and His glory, take a step back and realize that He is somehow still even better than what you’re imagining.
He’s revealing more, peeling the scales off of our eyes, making things clearer—but He is still operating in the realm of, “There’s so much more you can’t see, yet.”
And we wouldn’t even believe what He’s up to, even if He told us. How big is our God, amen?
